A licence does not automatically travel with a brand. These guides identify the regulator, explain which products fall within each framework and show how to find the legal entity and domain in an official source.

In France, an approval only covers the product categories expressly authorised. Sports betting, horse-race betting and certain online circle games may be offered by ANJ-approved operators; online slots, roulette, blackjack and other online casino games remain prohibited.

Activity-based licences and public register
Great Britain
The Gambling Commission regulates gambling offered to consumers in Great Britain. A business needs the licences relevant to its activities and channels, while the public register shows the legal business, trading names, current status and regulatory details.
Spain requires nationally offered online gambling to be supplied by operators holding the relevant DGOJ licences. The official authorised-games information and operator search distinguish supervised national offers from websites without a Spanish title.

Whitelist by operator and product
Germany
Germany publishes a common whitelist of authorised organisers and intermediaries. It is particularly useful because it links an operator to permitted forms of gambling: the existence of a company or brand does not mean that every product it offers is legal.

National concession required
Italy
Remote gambling aimed at Italy is based on concessions awarded and supervised by ADM. The official remote concessionaire directory is the starting point for identifying an authorised entity and should not be replaced by a commercial comparison site.

Entities and licences published by SRIJ

Licences organised by category
Belgium
Belgium organises gambling through several licence categories covering casinos, gaming halls, betting and related online activity. The official database can be browsed by class, allowing the licence holder to be identified rather than inferred from a brand name.
Legal online gambling in the Netherlands is based on a Kansspelautoriteit licence under the Remote Gambling Act. The licensee register and Kansspelwijzer are the official starting points for checking an operator and its offer.
Gambling for money supplied to the Swedish market generally requires an appropriate licence or permit. Spelinspektionen publishes a directory that distinguishes holders from businesses with international visibility but no Swedish title.
Operators supplying licence-based gambling in Denmark must hold an authorisation from Spillemyndigheden. The authority publishes licence holders and provides an official label intended to help players recognise offers under its supervision.
Since 2019, a concessioned Swiss land casino may seek an extension to operate online casino games. ESBK publishes the authorised online platforms and land-based casinos in two complementary official lists.
Provincial frameworks, no single national register
Canada
Canada does not have one national register covering every commercial offer. Provinces and territories conduct and regulate gambling under their own models. Ontario operates a competitive internet market regulated by AGCO and conducted within the iGaming Ontario framework.

Legality determined state by state
United States
The United States has no single national licence covering all online casino and betting activity. Each state decides which products, operators, geolocation controls and limits it permits. The same brand used in two states can therefore sit under entirely different legal frameworks.
Australia combines federal interactive-gambling law with licences issued by states and territories. ACMA maintains the national register of licensed interactive wagering providers. Online casinos, in-play sports betting and several other services remain prohibited when supplied to people in Australia.
The Online Casino Gambling Act 2026 created a new framework for online casinos in New Zealand, implemented by the Department of Internal Affairs. As at 15 September 2026, licences have not yet been issued: transition arrangements lead to a limited group of operators from December 2026 and licensing from 2027.
The Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland, established in 2025, is implementing the Gambling Regulation Act 2024. Since February 2026 it has accepted applications for remote betting, in-person betting and remote betting intermediary licences. Transition from older permissions remains phased.
Norway does not operate an open commercial licensing market. Norsk Tipping holds exclusive rights for several higher-risk products, while Norsk Rikstoto covers horse-race betting. Lotteries, bingo and non-profit gambling may receive separate permissions.

Austria generally reserves gambling to a federal monopoly implemented through limited, supervised concessions. The Ministry of Finance publishes holders for lotteries, online gambling, casinos and specified machine permissions granted by the Länder.
